Super Bowl Sunday is synonymous with football, entertaining commercials and food. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) says that Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest food consumption day of the year, behind Thanksgiving.
And what is on just about every menu? Chicken wings.
The National Chicken Council (NCC) says that Super Bowl weekend is the biggest time of the year for wings. More than 1.25 billion wing portions will be consumed during Super Bowl weekend in 2012, totaling more than 100 million pounds of wings, according to the NCC’s 2012 Wing Report.
If the wings were laid end-to-end they would circle the circumference of the Earth— more than twice—a distance that would reach approximately a quarter of the way to the moon, according to the NCC. But we all know that they would be eaten before the wings would be put end-to-end.
NCC Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Bill Roenigk on the NCC website said that chicken wings will be consumed by three times the number of Americans on Super Bowl Sunday than a typical Sunday throughout the year. About half will be ordered from restaurants and half purchased from retail grocery stores. (For a full list of Batavia restaurants and retail shops, click here.)
A chicken has two wings, and chicken companies are not able to produce wings without the rest of the chicken. Therefore, the supply of wings is limited by the total number of chickens produced. When the demand for wings is stronger than the demand for other chicken parts, the price of wings will go up.
Wing prices always go up in the fourth quarter of the year as restaurants stock up for the Super Bowl and prices usually peak in January during the run-up to the big game, according to the NCC.
In the Midwest, for instance, the price of wings (whole) for the week of Jan. 16-20, was $1.96 a pound wholesale, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Poultry Market News Service. This represents a 50 percent increase in price from six months ago in July 2011. The USDA estimates that the cost for frozen party wings in the Midwest cost $1.60 to $3 per pound.
“The good news for consumers,” said NCC’s Roenigk, “is that food service and retail outlets generally plan months in advance for the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl Sunday, meaning that increased wholesale costs for the most part aren’t passed on to consumers’ plates.”

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Takeru Kobayashi doesn’t look like a bottomless gullet by any means this weekend afternoon. The international eating star is serenely sitting with his hands folded over his knees in a barren hotel dining room with no food in front of him. For once.

Call this the calm before the Kobi storm.

He’s traveled the world, devouring everything in a frantic, world-record pace from spaghetti, to rice balls, pizza and hamburgers, to lobster rolls and sushi. Oh yeah, and raw cow brains. He’s most famously known in the United States for his hot dog-eating exploits at the annual Nathan’s July Fourth Hot Dog Eating Contest, but Kobi is about to take on a new challenge, in a completely different venue than he’s ever encountered before, as the star attraction of Wing Bowl 20. And that includes a new food group — Buffalo wings.

Kobayashi, 33, has come light years from the fresh-faced college kid who defied a friend’s challenge to ingest a menu that included curried rice. He found this odd passion by happenstance after displaying his amazing ability on a Japanese TV show. When he’s not jamming large sums of food into his mouth, he’s actually a highly refined food connoisseur.

Today, he’s arguably the second-most famous pronounced “Kobi” in the world, right next to that “other” Kobe with the Philadelphia roots. On Friday, he’ll try to unseat three-time Wing Bowl champion Jonathan “Super” Squibb, while testing venerable warhorse Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, last year’s runner-up and former three-time champ and five-time overall winner who last won Wing Bowl 13 in 2005.

The trio of favorites may be distinctly diverse in background, but you’ll find one glaring similarity about them: They’re all in tremendous physical shape, like highly tuned athletes.

It’s a basic misconception many outsiders looking in fail to see. Don’t let Kobayashi’s cool veneer fool you, either. Underneath the approachable smile under his thick lock of jet-black hair lies a fierce competitor ready to uncoil. Kobi was once buried under slabs of muscle, some 75 pounds heavier than he is today.

“It is very close to power lifting and weightlifting, which are two things I’ve done in the past,” said Kobi, through manager Maggie James. “You need to train and convince yourself that you can do this. You have to trick yourself mentally that you can, because your brain isn’t telling you that you can eat all these wings for 10 days. For me, it’s always about going after your own records. I try to look for that equal counterbalance where physically and mentally you’re equal to the challenge. It’s all a matter of conditioning yourself.”

So Kobi has been conditioning. He’s eating 200 wings a day and honing his technique for what will probably be the most unusual eating contest in which he’s ever competed.

Squibb and Simmons are certainly looking forward to facing the legend. Squibb currently holds the record, 255, which he achieved last year. The 26-year CPA who competed for Rutgers’ crew team will not easily relinquish a title that’s very important to him.

“I’m aiming to be the first one in history of Wing Bowl to win four straight; I like this challenge,” Squibb said. “I don’t shy away from it. I try to embrace it. It’s why I think it’s funny when people tell me about ‘my eating hobby.’ I don’t treat it like that. To me, it’s like an Olympic sport. If you think about it, it’s one individual who prepares and has one shot at it.

“Ask any Olympic athlete, they’ll say it’s 70-percent mental and 30-percent physical. I used to be a competitive rower for Rutgers and I competed at a high, Olympic-level. There’s that athletic side of me that comes out.

“I’m not discounting Kobi in any way. I only met him once, but from what I see in the media and reading in the blogs, a lot of people are claiming he’s the greatest eater in the world. Wings are a specialty and my best food group, so that gives me a shot at going up against one of the best in the world. It’s a great opportunity to prove myself against someone who has a great history of competitive eating. But this is my city, my town, my event, and I’m going against someone who is trying to take that away from me. I’m confident in my ability and know my opponents. I know Kobi is the headliner. So call me the underdog, though I’m the favorite. At the end of the day, it comes down to who eats the most wings.”

Simmons, 50, has competed against Kobi before, at the Glutton Bowl in 2002. But Simmons, popularly known as El Wingador, may be in the best shape he’s been in since first competing. He lifts 90 minutes a day, Monday through Friday, and is walking two miles on a treadmill. He knows age is against him, but Simmons views himself as the grizzled warhorse, the looming shadow in the showdown between Squibb and Kobayashi.

“Just call me Secretariat, the warhorse,” Wingador said with a bellowing laugh. “I have the advantage of being the veteran and Kobi is coming in as a rookie. I respect him as an eater, but I don’t know if he’s going to be able to negotiate these wings. I know Kobi is training like a madman. He’s going to study this and figure out the best way to compete.”

But Simmons added that the ambience of Wing Bowl will be far different from anything Kobi has ever previously encountered. It could be a vulgar frothing-at-the-mouth crowd, a far different lot than the masses he’s eaten before in New York City, which loves Kobi.

“This is a whole new ballgame,” Wingador said. “Don’t get me wrong, Kobi has been in a lot of big shows. But he’s going to have people yelling at him. I don’t know what this will do with his psyche, because this is Philly, and after all, Philly is about feeling. When I’m eating, I feel the energy from the crowd. That’s the only thing that bothers me is how Kobi will be received. I love him; I consider him a friend of mine. I want him to be well received. That’s important to me. I hope Philly represents itself well.”

Though Kobi has never eaten wings competitively, he’s eating 200 wings a day. He’s been watching videos of how Squibb and Simmons eat. He plans on putting on a show for the ages—making Wing Bowl 20 the most memorable.

Kobi is preparing a Philadelphia-themed entourage and float, with special Philadelphia sports celebrities as guests, his usual theme song, “Eye of the Tiger,” blaring and a surprise entrance featuring an august Philly staple leading him on to the Wells Fargo Center floor Friday morning.

“I’m practicing every day eating wings,” Kobi said. “It is true I never experienced what eating at the Wing Bowl is like, but I was there last year. To me, I guess there are ways that I consider myself an artist, in the sense that athletes and artists are alike. They are people that go to extreme places, and have extreme personalities. I’m entering this very, very focused.

“I’m coming here to bring this contest international. I’m hoping that Wing Bowl and Philadelphia shows itself in a good favor. I love Philadelphia. I’ve always enjoyed myself here. When I was up in New York last week, I didn’t have a really good idea of what the 20th anniversary of Wing Bowl might be like, but it’s becoming more and more real, and I’m getting real excited about how big and important Wing Bowl 20 will be. I’m ready. In my imagination, I hope to show the fans that I can shock their imaginations and make news on a new kind of level. Depending on the judging, I hope that I can eat over 300 wings.”

A local pizza joint in Charlotte known as Fuel Pizza has some of the best slices around town – something hard to find in this town – but is also known for its chicken wings. Boasting three styles of wings that are Charlotte Wing Fest Award Winners, I stopped in earlier this week to try them out.

Fuel Pizza has eight locations across the Charlotte area, but I stopped into their place at the intersection of South Blvd and East Blvd. All the restaurants are done up to look like old service stations (hence the name) and have a great atmosphere inside of them.

Proud of their pizza, Fuel also has no issue boasting their “Charlotte’s best” title, indicated by the multiple signs in the windows, along the line to order your food and on the menu board itself.

You can order wings in three sizes, a nine-piece for $7.49, an 18-piece for $14.49, and 45 wings for $33.49. They have numerous flavors of wings, but three of which won the Charlotte Wing Fest Award – the Hot Honey BBQ, Medium Buffalo, and Inferno (which they put “Yikes!” next to on the menu).

When the girl brought the nine-wing basket to the table (two drums, seven flaps, first thing I noticed was the delicious smell of the sauce covering the wings. With steam coming off them, it was clear these were freshly made, as advertised. I also got four celery sticks and a cup of blue cheese dressing – both of which went right to Abigail.

The wings had a crispy skin to them, with hot and juicy meat in each bite. The sauce complimented the meat and crispness of the skin very well, was not overwhelming or carrying the taste. I even found myself dabbing the wings in the extra sauce at the bottom of the basket, not because there wasn’t enough on the wings, but because the sauce was that good.

Overall, I was more than happy with my decision to go with the Hot Honey BBQ. They were tasty, fresh and the sauce was what set it over the top. I will have to go back and try the other award winners, as well as the other flavors. These go perfect to compliment one of Fuel’s great pizzas or simply on their own.

Now, the big question, did they live up to the title of Charlotte’s best wings? Not in my opinion. While they were very good, I still feel there are better wings out there.

Today the wing crew and myself went out on a lunch adventure. We brought along two rookies, Kevin and Baby Finn. We decided to check out Dazzy-O's Bar and Grill . Also known as Southside Pub. Located right off Rt. 73 in Hammonton Nj.

The bartender was very cool with us bringing in the little wing princes Cam and Finn. We sat at a booth and each table has a mini Tv. She brought over a scooby doo dvd and put it in for the kids to keep them entertained. I was starving so play time was over and time to eat . Owen , Kevin and I placed our order. They offered 6 flavors, so obviously we ordered 10 of each. Flavors as followed : Sweet and Savory, Spicy Ranch, Texas Tangy, Jamaican Jerk , Garlic Parm, and BBQ. 60 wings for 29.99 . Not a bad deal. The wings were average when it came to "meatyness" I liked the Texas Tangy the best, Kevin preferred the Sweet and Savory. Nothing w

as really too spicy. All the sauces were about mild .

The place offered a nice clean atmosphere . They had two pool tables and a bunch of flatscreen Tv's all over the place. Great place to check out some Sunday Football. Dazzy-O's offered a $2 sandwich special as well. Overall not the world's best wings, but a nice little lunch outing with the boys and some decent wings.

When American Wing King VP Owen Brennan asked me to write some wing reviews down in Charlotte,
N.C. I gladly took him up on the offer.

While New Jersey is a hotbed for wings, Charlotte is a little less renowned for their wings. But the city is
full of great restaurants and hole-in-the-wall places that offer great food and tasty wings.

My first stop was Jackalope Jack’s, a restaurant, bar and grill located in the Elizabeth neighborhood of
Charlotte, just minutes from Uptown.

I must have picked the right day to stop in, because Adam Richardson was on location filming an episode
of “Man v. Food” for the Food Network. Richardson was there for the chili, the Mexi-Cali Kobe Beef
burger, the slider challenge and more.

Me, well I was there for the wings.

The great staff at Jackalope Jack’s suggested I try the 20-wing sampler. The wings were split up in two
baskets with five of each flavor, along with complementary celery and blue cheese. Each flavor was
labeled on the paper lining the basket, which made it easy to determine which was which.

The first group I tried was the Buffalo. My first bite into the wings reveled juicy meat all throughout the
wing that easily fell off the bone. The sauce was spicy, but not overpowering and left a great aftertaste.
Definitely grab a handful of napkins, because you’ll need them.

The next group I tried was the Barballo. The sauce was a combination of barbeque and buffalo, which
was much sweeter, but still had a kick. Milder than the Buffalo wings, the Barballo were full of sauce,
juicy meat and delicious smoked flavor. These were by far my favorite of the group. Again, get the
napkins ready, you’ll need them.

On to the second basket, the Teriyaki and Jamaican Jerk were very similar in taste. Neither was as messy
or saucy as the Buffalo or the Barballo. They were both sweeter and tangier and had much of the smoky
taste, which was nice. Even though the basket was labeled, it was still difficult to tell which wings were
the Teriyaki and which were the Jamaican Jerk.

I was certainly pleased with the wings and the great service from my waiter Eric. He kept checking on
me, bringing me cold Yuenglings, even suggesting new beers, despite the busy atmosphere surrounding
the “Man v. Food” taping.

Eric even took me back into the kitchen to show me the smoker they use to cook the wings, using
hickory to add a great taste.

If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Jackalope Jack’s. I would suggest asking for the

20-wing sampler on your first visit and figure out which flavor you’ll get next time. For me, it will be the
Barballo.

Jackalope Jack’s has a lot of other menu items to offer, four skee ball games and weekly tournaments,
a basketball game, punching game, Golden T, and pool table. They have a great patio overlooking 7th
Street and is both family and pet friendly.

When we walked in , we were greeted by store owner Pepe Guida from Naples Italy. I was immediately impressed by the clean atmosphere. We placed my normal order of 20 wings. Owen looked at me and said " you are not going to be able to eat all 20 here today." I brushed him off quickly. Pepe then offered us a tour of the restaurant. He showed us how he cooked his wings. All wings were fresh and he marinated all his wings for atleast 46 hours!!!. I repeat 46 hours!! He then showed us how he breads and cooks the wings. All the breading is a home-made mix. I thought he was showing off a little bit with the size of the wings he showed me and then I realized all his wings were that size. Owen was right, ( rare to admit this) and I was doomed . Our wings came out and I barely ate 10. They were good size wings. They also tasted great, they have a spicy kick to them and he serves all sauce on the side. He only serves mild and hot sauce. I suggest they carry some more variety in their wings, but I enjoyed wings. Though just marinated by themselves they are good. (It's 930 am, and as I type this, I'm thinking about driving there soon as they open because my mouth is watering thinking of these wings, damn I have problems lol) I was stuffed after 10 and had to bring home the rest in a doggy bag , carrying my head down in shame. Pepe said they are known for the Rotisserie Chicken, but the wings have been catching on fast. This place was my personal favorite in town for the unique style and epic portions.My only other complaint is that they need a Facebook page. As you can also see , LaRosa is now one of our sponsors. We accepted them after we tasted the wings, American Wing King will never be sponsored by a wing we don't fully approve. My suggestion , try them for yourself.

AmericanWing Kings visited LaVita's pizza in Moorstown, located right in theheart of town on Main Street, the other day. We have heard they hadpretty good wings from a couple people so we decided to check it out. It's avery colorful restuarant, but completely decked out in Yankees stuff! Boo!Everything is Yankees, paintings on the walls, pictures and NY slogans. Notsure how smart that is being in Phillies territory but whatever. We looked overthe menu and decided to order 24 wings in a couple different flavors....but no.They don't split the flavors per order, so we ended up having to place 4different orders of 6. That sucked! We ended up paying almost $10 over what thecost for 24 wings would be. That wasn't cool. I asked the guy running the place,"What flavor is ordered the most?" He didn't get what i was asking.So, i rephrased, "What's the most popular flavor?" He replied,"Mild i guess, people around here are boring." Ok cool, insult thecustomers, nice. I looked over the menu and ordered Teriyaki, garlic parm, hotand mild. The wings were totally "plain jane" as Don Thompson,described them. They were small, over cooked and not a whole lot of meat nthem. The garlic parm had fresh parmesan, which was pretty cool, and freshgarlic, but they were still dry. The mild and hot flavors were very generic.Nothing really to write about for them. The best were there teriyaki. Goodflavor, pretty sweet with an authentic asian taste. They were the best atLaVita's. After we housed all 24 wings, and paying like $34, we were stillstarving so had to spend another 10 bucks on a calzone, which was pretty good.They had a very large selection of gourmet pizzas lined up on the counter. Ihave heard their pizzas wee amazing and I definetly believe that. I rate the wingsat LaVita's a 3, and thats only because the teriyaki sauce was good. Theservice sucked too, like i said, the manager said "people around here areboring." Anthony and I split the calzone, so we both ended up having totake some home. I walked up to the countr and asked for a take out box. The guysaid, "For what?" Umm, because we have food to take home maybe? Herolld his eyes and got me 2 boxes. That's about it for LaVita's. If you'relooking for wings in Moorestown, suggest going to one of the other 5places just on Main Street to get your fix.

Wing Bowl is an annual eating contest founded in 1993 by Philadelphia talk-radio hosts Angelo Cataldi and Al Morganti as a celebration of gluttony. The contest was first broadcast on WIP (AM).
About 10 people attended Wing Bowl I (held in a hotel) in 1993 to see a competition between two contestants. The event pits competitive eaters in a chicken wing eating contest. The Wing Bowl is traditionally held on the Friday preceding the Super Bowl. The event, which began as a radio promotion, has grown to encompass television, the Internet, and a contest for women who are termed "the Wingettes."
It is currently held at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center, where it is still broadcast live on WIP. There are currently no television deals to broadcast the event live; however, a replay is usually shown on WPSG, Comcast SportsNet, or one of the other local stations within the following week. The Wing Bowl now draws crowds of 20,000 or more.

Wing Bowl was the brainchild of WIP radio host Al Morganti, who came up with the idea when it became apparent the Philadelphia Eagles were not going to make the Super Bowl anytime soon. It is also suggested that Morganti was fed up with the Buffalo Bills going to the Super Bowl and not winning. The first Wing Bowl was held in the lobby of the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel in Center City. Carmen Codero walked away with the inaugural title, receiving a hibachi as his prize.
Since then, media coverage has grown to the point where every one of the major Philadelphia television stations has covered the event. The ABC, CBS and Fox affiliates all aired live reports from the event during their morning news. Features on the event have appeared in the Courier-Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News as well as a host of newspapers in the surrounding counties. The event has been featured on ESPN and the syndicated television shows Real TV and The Montel Williams Show. Segments on Wing Bowl have appeared on TV newscasts in cities throughout the country. Several Wing Bowl contestants, including "El Wingador," competed in Fox's "Glutton Bowl" in the spring of 2002. The 2007 Wing Bowl was carried on Comcast Cable's On Demand channel.
Then Mayor of Philadelphia and future Governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell attended Wing Bowls II, III, IV and VI, where he presented the winner with a "Liberty Bell" trophy. Other celebrities who have appeared include retired heavyweight boxer Randall "Tex" Cobb, former 76ers President Pat Croce, former Phillies manager Larry Bowa, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, and others. Major-league umpire Eric Gregg served as the "Commissioner" of Wing Bowl from its second year until his death from a stroke on June 5, 2006. On December 4, 2006, it was announced that Pat Croce will be the new commissioner.

(As per Wing Bowl Commissioner Pat Croce) Entry into Wing Bowl can be gained in two ways, the first of which is successfully performing an "eating stunt" on air during The Morning Show at the 610 WIP studios in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, with Al Morganti as judge. Stunts have included eating 20 cups of cooked oatmeal, eating 60 ounces of creamed spinach with 60 ounces of hot sauce, and eating five Big Macs. The stunt must be completed within a time limit negotiated between the contestant and Morganti. Morganti, known to be a tough judge, has disallowed stunts that involved what he considers "cheating", such as dipping bread into a beverage to make it easier to swallow, or breaking up a food item into constituent parts for easier chewing (such as separating hot dogs from their buns). He is also tough on contestants who suggest a stunt involving liquid consumption; The Morning Show hosts prefer eating stunts over drinking stunts. If a person offers to perform a drinking stunt, it must be compelling to the hosts, such as Wing Bowl XIV champion Joey Chestnut's offer to drink a gallon of milk. The hosts deemed it not difficult enough, but, fortunately for Chestnut, former champion Bill "El Wingador" Simmons was present and declared the stunt to have a high level of difficulty, upon which the hosts accepted his offer, with a five-minute time limit to complete the challenge.
The other way to gain entry to Wing Bowl is to win a "Wingoff." A "Wingoff" is a 10 minute eating contest held at a Philadelphia or South Jerseybar hosted by former Philadelphia Eagle and WIP Host Hugh Douglas and WIP Personality Marc Farzetta. The "Wingoffs" began in 2005 when 610 WIP decided to spoof the Philadelphia Big 5|Big 5 Philadelphia area universities basketball teams. The winner of these "Wingoffs" gain automatic entry into the Wing Bowl.

The ongoing NBA lockout may give players time to pursue other business opportunities, and Milwaukee forward Drew Gooden is wasting no time.

The 30-year-old basketball pro has signed a multi-unit franchise agreement with Wingstop, a national hot-wings chain, with plans for opening four new restaurants in Orlando over the next few years.

Gooden, who previously played for the Orlando Magic, and a partner, George Taylor III, have formed Zerocon Food Systems LLC and expect to open the venture’s first restaurant early next year, according to a release this week from the Texas-based chain.

“With the lockout, a lot of us are thinking about our future and looking for new business and investment opportunities,” Gooden says in a statement. “I’ve been a big fan of Wingstop for years, so this is a perfect fit for me.”

The NBA earlier this week canceled the first two weeks of its regular season, as a battle continues over how players and owners will divide the league's $4 billion in annual revenue.

Dave Vernon, Wingstop’s vice president of franchise sales, says Gooden has shown “great enthusiasm for the brand and a strong head for business throughout the franchise process.” Taylor, he adds, is a “strong operational partner” who will help ensure the restaurants’ success in Orlando.

“There’s a huge market of wing eaters in Orlando and I just want to provide them with the best product out there, hands down,” says Gooden, who has adopted Orlando as his hometown.

Gooden follows a long line of other sports figures and entertainers, including former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson, who have invested in franchises.

Wingstop has more than 485 restaurants in the United States and Mexico. Hip-hop artist Rick Ross recently opened his first Wingstop in Memphis and Troy Aikman, the Fox Sports analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, sits on the company’s board.

After a morning of hanging out with a group of 7 of my veteran friends, nothing better than seeking out the best wing spot, ordering a couple towers of beer, watching football and telling hilarious military stories. That’s just what we did. The wing spot, Charlie’s Bar. We were all helping a Senator film a commercial in Northfield. When we were dismissed, I had to ask a local veteran, “Where’s the best wing spot around here?” 4 out of the 7 people simultaneously said, with enthusiasm, ”CHARLIE’S!!!!” So the convey began. An Atlantic City police officer had point, an Army Ranger brought up the rear. Me, well, I got to ride with one of the coolest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of being friends with, Bill Brown, 8 year Navy veteran.

We ordered 70 wings. 35 were Southwest BBQ, the rest were honey BBQ. I had the SW BBQ in front of me so I stuck with them. They were the full wings, which I’m not really fond of but these were pretty tasty. I thought they were pressure cooked or something because the meat came right off of the bone. Decent size too! I’ve never heard of “southwest bbq” before, and I love trying new flavors. The sauce was mild, and kinda sweet. I can’t really compare the flavor to anything because it was so unique. Definitely an amazing flavor. The service was phenomenal too I might add. We always had plenty of napkins, our glasses were always full, and if anyone needed anything, our server, Amanda, was on top of it! Everyone was very friendly in there too. The former Chief of Police of Atlantic City bought us all a round too which was pretty awesome.

If you decide to visit Charlie’s Bar, make sure you bring cash, they do not accept cards. Conveniently they do have an ATM machine though. Plenty of parking, and very easy to get back on the Garden State Parkway.

I visited Dominic’s Tavern in Bellmawr after my friend, Sean Tighe, raved about their “Fat Daddy” wings. After belonging to the Camden County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums band for about a year, which is headquartered about a mile from Dominic’s Tavern, I cannot believe that I wasn’t informed sooner of this fine establishment. Sean told me that the wings were awesome there. I’ve heard that before and I’ve been disappointed. NOT THIS TIME! Outstanding wings. Sean was right on about their Fat Daddy wings. The sauce had a little kick to it, and was unlike any other sauce I’ve ever had. It was a very odd mixture of hot sauce, cheddar cheese and ranch dressing! WHAT!? Insane combo but was absolutely amazing!
Whenever I go to a new place with someone, I always take their word on what wings to get, since that’s what we do. Sean also ordered an order of honey bbq, and garlic hot. The honey bbq wings were really sweet and had a delightful after taste. My 3 year old son, Cameron “The Wing Prince” Brennan, tore them up. Not spicy at all, with a sweet, smokey barbeque taste. I’m not a huge fan of really super spicy wings, and the garlic hot sauce was HOT. I could only eat one of them. If you decide to order any type of wings from Dominic’s, and it says hot, trust me, its freaking hot! Sean tore them up though, gotta give him props for that!
Dominic’s Tavern wings come in orders of 10. Each order, with blue cheese and celery, is only $5.95. I must add, they were some of the biggest, meatiest wings in the area. That means a lot to the Wing Kings. I was stuffed after eating about 8 wings. Another good thing about Dominic’s is the little Phillies helmets they give to kids. Cameron ordered little soft pretzel bites with cheddar cheese dip, and they came out in a little Phillies helmet! We ordered 30 wings, pretzel bites, a hot dog (Cameron’s choice) 2 sodas, an apple juice (Cameron again) and Sean and I had 6 beers, and the bill was under $50. It was definitely worth every penny. I will be returning to Dominic’s Tavern again, and if you do too, make sure you tell them that The American Wing Kings sent you!

Were on vacation for a week and I see a sign for half price wings on Tuesday, so obviously I wouldn't pass on this place. After a few bad wings this past week, I needed to find some good wings quick. Luckily this place had some good wings. We walked into a dimly lit lounge area and were promptly greeted by the bartender. The restaurant is a two story bar. The saloon offers half price wings on Tuesdays from 5-9pm. I was surprised the bar didn't have more customers. We grabbed a table and I ordered my usual sugar free Red Bull. My friends took advantage of the special on Blue Moon Pitchers. The wings came in 7 varities ; Dead Dog House Sauce, Hot, BBQ, Terriyaki, Spicy Sweet , Garlic and Plain. I asked the waiter what he recommended and he quickly told us the House Sauce was the best. I ordered 10 of them , and 10 spicy sweet. My friends all ordered a variety of the rest of the sauces. While waiting for our order I checked out the bar. The bar has a nice 82 inch tv which is great for watching sports. I also found out the meaning behind the name of the bar. Apparently when the bar was under construction, the workers were frequently visited by a dog on a daily basis. The dog would even carry hammers to the workers. On one unfortunate day, the dog was struck by a car and killed. They asked the owner of the bar what they should do with the dog, the owner asked them to bury the dog on site and the building was built on top, and so the " Dead Dog Saloon" was created.
The wings came out and we all dove into our baskets. The waiter was right, the Dead Dog House Sauce was the best. We had mixed opinions on the Spicy Sweet wings. They were basically a form of Asian wings that I have had before. The hot sauce was more like a mild sauce. Garlic wings were just average. Overall the wings were a decent size and the service was good. If your in the area check out the house sauce. It taste like a mix of BBQ and a sweet Hot sauce. I'm probably going back tomorrow for another 10!

Martin Russo Is Chicken Wing Champ

The South Whitehall resident will compete in Philadelphia’s infamous Wing Bowl next year.

Winning his first-ever wing-eating contest at age 50, Martin “Rooster Hogburn” Russo proved he has true grit.

The South Whitehall Township man took his nickname from the crusty, never-give-up U.S. marshal Jeff Bridges plays in the movie (True Grit), to beat 29 challengers at a regional competition outside the Buckeye Tavern in Macungie last month, a contest that puts him in the running for Philadelphia’s infamous Wing Bowl next year.

Russo, now 51, ate 170 wings to take his namesake prize: The Rooster Trophy.

“I didn’t go in with the thought of winning,“ he said of his strategy. “I wanted to make the second round.“

By the second round, he was in third place, having eaten 108 wings. The next closest had consumed less than 90. That‘s when Russo realized he had a chance.

Russo didn‘t train for the event but said he watched a video of some of the world‘s greatest eating contest winners. He also was the only contestant to stand while eating, and said he believes that headphones and yoga helped him concentrate on the task.

“Once the bell rang, I didn’t remember most of what happened,” he said, not even the taste of the high-calorie appetizers.

Afterward, Russo said he didn’t get sick. He also didn’t eat for a day and a half.

“I was full that long,” he said.

One of eight kids, Russo admits to a competitive nature, especially at the dinner table.

However, he said entering a food-eating contest was on his “life list” of goals he thought he could accomplish. Others he’s completed include a polar bear swim and visiting the Mount St. Helens volcano in Washington.

Russo’s family and co-workers from the Bethlehem accounting firm Morey, Nee, Buck & Oswald cheered him on at the June 12 wing-eating fete by chanting “Go Rooster!”

“My son thinks it’s the best thing in the world,” he said. “My daughter thinks it’s funny. And my wife was grossed out.”

Russo will urge his wife Mary and daughter to stay home during the raucous Wing Bowl, which on the Friday before the Super Bowl draws 20,000 spectators to the Wells Fargo Center, tailgaters who start drinking at 2 a.m. and a prize last year of $20,000 and a new truck.

Yet winning the first wing-eating contest he ever entered has not made Russo cocky.

To beat the 25 or so contestants in Philadelphia, he said, he’ll probably have to eat more than 250 wings in the same time frame, a half hour broken into two 14-minute rounds and one two-minute finale.

“I don’t have the eating power of a professional,” he said.

Still, Russo is excited about the prospect of being interviewed in January on radio station WIP and riding on a float with other contestants before the contest. He’ll wing it, hoping not to embarrass himself.

In addition to the steps he took to win locally, Russo plans to prepare for Philly by chewing a lot of gum. Thirty minutes of non-stop wing chewing, he said, can be painful.

Russo also wants to help a local charity -- yet to be revealed -- obtain donations based on the number of wings he eats. “That way if I lose, someone else will win.”

Byrne's Tavern - Port Richmond (Philadelphia) PA

Anthony and I just had lunch at Byrne's Tavern in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, PA. First off, I'd like to say how easy this place is to get to. It's just off of I95. You can actually see it from the highway. It has a huge crab on the side of the brick building with a gigantic shamrock behind it. "Welcome to friendly Port Richmond" is a very inviting slogan. This tavern has a great Irish feel to it, when you get to it, there is plenty of parking which is a huge plus for a place in the city. Once you walk in, you're greeted by the friendly staff. I haven't been there in about 10 months, and only 3 times or so before that, and the waitress' Rox both remembered my name, asked me about my son, and even asked me how things were going in the town that i live in. That alone is amazing! But we don't write reviews on customer service haha. Still amazing though. When we sat down, we were given our menus, which is like 3 pages long. Typical bar food with their signature dishes such as crabs, potato logs (which are out of this world), and their famous wings. You can only get your wings one way there, their way. Want them cooked extra crispy? Tough. Their way or no way. When a place does it like that, you know they're confident. So, Anthony and I split 25 wings. They were at our table in about 3 minutes. AMAZING speed, and they were just freshly cooked. If you're the healthy type, and still like wings, this place is for you. Byrne's Tavern doesn't deep fry their food, everything is pressure cooked, yes still with oil, but they're not dripping with grease. They only have one type of sauce, not too spicy, but I wouldn't call it mild. It had a little bite to it but worked very well. They also sell pints of their wing sauce on the side. Most places don't do this.The wings weren't very big but since they are pressure cooked, you get every little bit of meat, and it literally falls right off of the bone. Delicious. I was full after about 11 wings, and I'm not a little fella. 25 wings for less than $15 bucks. Not too bad at all. We got a chance to speak with the owner and he claims they make over 2,500lbs of chicken wings a week! We had to ask him twice to make sure we heard him right. He said he has to get a delivery almost every other day. So you know the wings are fresh!

Overall, the service, taste, and price were great. I definitely suggest to give Byrne's Tavern a try, you wont be disappointed. The tavern itself is kinda small, and has that old, philly bar feel, and they have outside seating if you're the type that likes to be outside. Not too much scenery to look at since it's pretty much right under I95, and faces Richmond Ave, but it's still cool to grub on some food while sitting outside in the city. Give Byrne's Tavern a shot ,or order take-out and make sure you tell them the American Wing Kings sent you!

Don’t be surprised to find the patrons of Bayou Bar and Grill sectioned off according to team jerseys bearing names like "Saggy TD's" and "Dixie Normous." As a sports bar, the Bayou takes this designation literally, organizing various sports leagues
for Manayunk Sport and Social Club. You'll find many of the players following up competition on the field with a post-game drink here. Welcome the urge to lapse into the nostalgia of your high school athletic career. Everyone else is doing the same. Keep in mind though, you don't need to wear cleats or know Vick's completion percentage to enjoy the wings served at this Main Street Manayunk joint. What you do need is an appreciation for the small-sized wing and a well-flavored sauce. Bring first-timers out on a Monday when wings are 20 cents apiece and watch their reaction turn from ecstatic over the price to completely disillusioned when the little guys arrive. Yes, they serve up a smaller wing, but the Bayou proves smaller wings have
their advantages! At this size, they maintain their tenderness while avoiding the fatty composition that is typical in larger wings. Free from the binds of fat, the meat slides effortlessly from the bone.
When it comes to surface area per pound, smaller wings offer a lot more of it, allowing the skin to absorb even more sauce. With the Bayou’s mouth-watering concoction, that’s a very good thing. Whether you appreciate flavor over spiciness or vice versa, you’ll agree that this sauce has it all. While adding a subtle touch of sweet and a hint of tangy, the Bayou still maintains that well-desired fire that is always associated with a good wing sauce. The brave can forgo the blue cheese in order to truly appreciate the flavor, but the rest of us will opt for a defense against the heat. Although they haven’t won a “Best of Philly” award for their wings since 1998- when some of us were still playing little league- there’s something to be said for nostalgia and players like the Bayou. More than ten years after the awards and accolades, they’re still serving up one of the best chicken wings in Philly, and that says a lot- even if their glory days are beyond the memory of the next generation of wing enthusiasts.

I have driven past this place many times on Rt. 30 but never have had time to stop by for some food. Today, I made it my mission to eat lunch at Russell's. Every "Pic " that I have ever eaten at has always had amazing wings, so I was hoping this place did not let me down. I would consider this bar, a "locals" kinda establishment. A few regulars were here and everyone knew each other , besides me , so I stood out like a sore thumb. The bar had a musty smell to it, reminded me of my fraternity house after a night of partying. There was no music playing and the TV was playing reruns of Dennis the Menace. The atmosphere was kinda off, but I wasn't there to meet my future wife and get crazy , I was there for the wings! I placed my order of food and grabbed a drink. I was pleased because they had sugar free Red Bulls, always a plus in my book. Just like I had hoped, the Pic wings did not let me down. The flavors that Russell's offer is Mild, Spicy, Hot , Extra Hot and INFERNO. Now just like other Pic wings, you get the leg and the wing attached. So one order of 6 , is basically 12. ( They call it a Super Wing) Price was $6 dollars ( or 50 cents a wing). Great price for great tasting wings! On Monday and Thursday nights they offer "double wings for the price of 1". Sounds like a steal to me. Another cool feature is that they serve their wings in a frying pan, which was very unique. (see picture) I met the bartender and introduced myself. We talked about wings and a little history of the bar. She told me this Pic was separate from the other "Pic-A-Lilli's" but from the same family. At Russell's, they took pride in developing a slightly sweeter wing sauce then the other places. Another cool fact, she claims on Super Bowl XXXIX (the last time the Eagles went to the big game on Feb 6 2005) that the Pic sold about 13,000 wings on that day. Now when you consider both the leg and wing are attached, thats really 26,000 wings!!!! Holy Hot Sauce Batman! Overall the place got the job done. I wouldn't recommend it for a first date to impress a lady, but I would recommend it if your trying to find some good wings.

We Challenged anyone and everyone to come out and enter our spicy wing challenge. Prior to issuing an open challenge to the public, many folks would come in and ask about how spicy can we make the wings. We would hear stories about sauces at several wing places, some good, some not so. Many would ask how we made our sauce citing its flavor and mildness. As time went on, the demands to make the buffalo sauce hotter and hotter grew. Until we finally came up with a sauce that would satisfy most any need for heat.

The "Numb Ya Face" sauce was created. This sauce has met every boastful challenger's desire for heat and flavor. A YOUNG professional who savagely bit the ear of an acquaintance during a drunken dispute over a chicken wing has been fined $1500.
Theodore Herring, 24, of McLeod Street, Coleraine, pleaded guilty to intentionally causing injury.
He was convicted by magistrate Stephen Myall, who said it was important to deter others from committing similar offences.
Portland Magistrates Court yesterday heard Herring spent the early hours of February 20 this year drinking with friends in central Hamilton.
About 4.30am he ventured to a fast food outlet on Thompson Street, where a man he knew from high school had just bought two chicken wings.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Sandra Skilton told the court Herring asked for some food and became violent when his request was refused.
He threw his victim to the ground, causing him to fall face-down on the footpath, and then lay on his back.Herring proceeded to place his mouth over the man’s left ear and bite down heavily before leaving.His victim required 12 stitches to his ear lobe, and later told police he expected to lose a large piece of flesh due to the attack.
Defence counsel Pat Howman said his client was given one chicken wing by his acquaintance and turned on the man after being denied the second one.
He said Herring, who holds a science degree in environmental management and ecology and works in the mining industry, left the area mainly due to disbelief at what had happened.The 24-year-old had offered repeated apologies to his victim but was yet to receive a reply.“If alcohol hadn’t been involved, this incident would never had got to where it did,” Mr Howman said, adding that Herring’s drinking began after he played in a cricket match. Sergeant Skilton said the community had become frustrated with drunken street violence involving innocent victims.

Cooking chicken wings starts Tampa apartment fire

TAMPA - A man's attempt to cook chicken wings Sunday afternoon sparked a fire that damaged several Tampa apartments.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, 23-year-old Zachary Lesinski was frying the wings around 1 p.m. when the grease boiled over onto the stovetop and caught fire.

Lesinski tried to smother the blaze but couldn't so he called 9-1-1 as he ran out his home, located at the Cove Apartments on Westshore Blvd.

Firefighters got the flames under control in about 20 minutes and were able to stop the fire from consuming the entire building.

The fire did moderate damage to Lesinski's apartment and caused some smoke and water damage in 3 other apartments. Damage to the building is estimated at $100,000.

The American Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire.

I see a lot of rock shows for my boyfriend AJ's band at a bar called Championships in Trenton NJ. Usually when I get food there I'll get a burger and fries or a cheesesteak. But I always see the part of the menu that says "home of the garlic Parmesan wings".

Today, I got them, and they were delicious. It took a while for the wings to come out because of how large the show was. The bar is small, but the music crowd they bring in Is huge. I listened to a band play while I waited, and then the wings came.

I ordered 12 instead of 6 because I was really hungry. The garlic Parmesan wings were the right choice. They were tangy, but not spicy. They had just enough sauce that wasn't sticky but stayed on the chicken. The wings were fried, which I liked.

Usually, when you think chicken wings, there are hot wings, mild wings, and barbecue wings. The garlic Parmesan wings were something I've never tried before, but I was not disappointed.

My Wednesday night wing cravings led me to Curran's Irish Inn, Palmyra, NJ. It was their special wing night, where you get $0.35 wings between 6pm and 11pm (must order 10) plus tax...$3.75, still a GREAT price for 10 wings.

When I walked in, I was rather surprised to not see as many people there for wing night as usual. I'd say there was about 12 tables with 2 - 4 people at each. So I figured, at least service will be quick... boy, was I wrong. Both waitresses walked by us and said nothing. There were no bus boys so the two tables that we were eyeing up for our view of the Phillies game, of course had customer residue on them both. Finally, a waitress stopped to clear off the empty glasses and old placemats...Oh, and she forgot to ask us our drink order or tell us she'd be back. So the wait continued...and the other girl came by to tell us, the other waitress (who just cleared our table) would be right with us. After about 10 minutes of waiting, finally the second girl (not the one who cleared our table and didn't acknowledge us) came back and took our order for drinks and told us it was wings night (35 cent wings, 4 domestic bottles for 10$ and pitchers of soda for 4$). As she went to get our drinks, the other waitress came back to take our drink order...too late, hah! I think if I wasn't writing this review, I may have walked out prior to this.

Once we had our drinks, we knew what we wanted to order, after all we had 15 minutes to decide already...and it wasn't my first trip around the block. We ordered 20 cajun, 15 hot, and 15 BBQ.

The bar has nice flat screen tvs (8) positioned around the room so you can get a spot pretty much anywhere and see a TV...only problem they all had the same thing on, which was fine at the time since it was the Phils game.

Our food came out relatively quick, which could have been a concern, since it took 15 minutes to ask us what we wanted to drink. But once I bit into the first wing, my concerns were gone.

I started with the Cajun wings. Now, I'm not sure I'd call these cajun, as they do not have your typical hot/spicy cajun spice to them (so they are suitable for all you wusses out there). They are seasoned generously, yet not too greasy and drippy. The wing itself was nice and crisp outside, with a juicy/tender inside. Paired with their cracked peppercorn blue cheese they are simply wonderful.

Next I went to the Hot wings. These were equally as delicious as the Cajun wings...also a great change of pace if you are a 20 wing kind of person (10 hot and 10 cajun would be a perfect order.. I tend to get sick of eating the same thing until I get sick...like a house cat or goldfish would do). The sauce on the hot wings is very flavorful with a nice light kick to it, probably more comparable to a medium at the "Macho Wing Sauce" places we often times see, but I'm not here for a competition. I like my hot, not too hot, with great flavor and nice spice, they were actually hotter than the last time I was here. Again, they were nice and crisp outside, perfectly done inside.

On to the BBQ. Very sweet/tangy sauce...not bad. The sweet sauce was another good changeup during the meal...paired with the blue cheese, I was lovin it! Although, I know a lot of people would say I'm crazy putting a BBQ wing into blue cheese...Hey, it made sense, give it a whirl!

The Blue Cheese is Delicious if you are a fan, TVs are very nice, Nice open spaced bar, Very clean restaurant and bathrooms. Daily Specials on food and drinks. The service I would say is their biggest downfall, but if you can get past that and can spare a few extra minutes the wait will be worth it.

Virginia woman devours 181 chicken wings in 12 minutes to set new record September 6, 2010, 5:14pm NEW YORK (AP) – The Black Widow of eating contests gobbled up nearly 181 chicken wings in 12 minutes, devouring the national championship record in Buffalo on Sunday.

“I’m so happy!” said Sonya Thomas, who ate 4.86 pounds of chicken wings to win the contest, besting world eating marvel Joey Chestnut at the ninth annual National Buffalo Wing Festival.

Buffalo, about 480 kilometers northwest of New York, is said to be the birthplace of the wings, typically fried and covered in tangy vinegar and hot sauce.

Chestnut, America’s No. 1 professional eater, was favored to win Sunday’s competition. He came in second after eating 169 chicken wings, or 4.55 pounds.

This was the first time Thomas, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Chestnut, of San Jose, California, faced off in a chicken wing eating contest. They went at it “neck and neck,” said Drew Cerza, the founder of the festival, which was inspired by the 2001 Bill Murray comedy “Osmosis Jones,” about a compulsive eater.

“They pushed each other really hard,” Cerza said. “Joey is so strong. He’s got great jaw strength. But Sonya’s so fast with the hand.”

Thomas, who is 5 feet tall and weighs 105 pounds, calls herself the Black Widow because she often defeats bigger male competitors — Chestnut is 6-foot-2 and weighs 230 pounds — in eating contests. She set the previous wings record in 2005, when she ate 174 in 12 minutes.

She also previously set eating records for oysters, hard-boiled eggs, cheesecake and jalapeno peppers. She won her first competitive eating event in 2003.

The sprightly 43-year-old said she owed Sunday’s triumph to her fancy finger work.

“Sometimes if I try to chew too much I slow down,” she said. “I used my hands more than the mouth.”

During the public contest, in front of thousands of people, she twirled the wings in her small fingers while quickly tearing off the meat with her teeth and lips.

I sat down in my stool (Look, I have a ‘condition’). Okay, I sat down at the bar. The environment could be summed up as “hillbilly funk”. It was pretty slow that night. However, it took about five minutes before the bartender acknowledged my existence. I thought I was Patrick Swayze’s ghost…not the one in Ghost, his actual one... Anyway, I ordered my Sam Wheat, err…I mean Samuel Adams and ordered ten hot buffalo wings, well done, for $7.49 (It was Coors Light by the way). When I received my wings, I was given two bowls, one for the wings, and one for dispensing the bones. Overall, 45th Street Pub had the best presentation. However, the wings did not come out with celery so they did lose some points for that. I really don’t care for celery though. After biting in, the wing itself was a tad bit on the salty side, and I like salty food. The wings were not tossed well in the sauce, which had pooled at the bottom of my black bowl. After I doused the wings a little bit more in the sauce, the wings did a one-eighty and became a rather enjoyable experience. I looked forward to eating each subsequent wing and was very satisfied. The sauce was the best tasting and hottest out of all ‘hot’ wings across the board, but there wasn’t enough sauce in the bottom of the bowl to get the coating I desired. The wings were not that hot to my taste buds, but they may have been mildly discomforting to a two year old with open sores in his mouth. The wings were on the meatier side, not Flintstone dinosaur-sized, but meaty. The wings were also cooked perfectly.

After walking up on top of the outside deck at Ott’s, I noticed there was a younger crowd. I told one of my younger brother’s friends that I was doing a wing review there and he said, “You came to the wrong place.” I tried to eat the wings with an open mind and without bias, but I can truly say that his remark was not completely unfounded. So to keep it standard, I ordered ten hot buffalo wings, well done, for $6.95. Right there, you can’t beat that price. Well you can, but shut up. The waitress was pretty cool and was cracking jokes almost immediately. What Ott’s did have going for it was at that point in time I was starving and could probably eat tree bark smeared in rat liver. Hungry now? As I said before, the waitress was nice, but she didn’t raise our umbrella at our table. Minus four. We also had to go scavenging for napkins. Plus five. What? Scavenging is fun. What is with that anyway? I’m counting the days until they start charging extra for napkins, and for each time you slap the waiter on the backside (yes, waiter). Ott’s had by far the best bleu cheese out of the three bars I visited. The outside area was very nice. It could have used a couple more TV’s though, especially when I was trying to watch the Phillies comeback, from ten miles away, with some dude smoking a cancer stick right in front of me. The wings were not as salty as 45th Street Pub’s which was a plus. The skin was a bit on the dry side. The wing itself tended to be a bit chewy, but the taste of the chicken was quite good actually. The sauce was not that hot, and it had a stronger Tabasco flavor. They did not bring out any wet naps, but Ott’s was the only bar whose wings came out with celery. Plus negative ten.

Whistlers Inn
When I walked in, I immediately worried if my uncle and I would even find a spot to sit down at. The place was packed. I guess it was trivia night and everyone had their phones out to show how awesome they are at Googling. When we first walked into one of the back rooms, I noticed it had a bit of a mildew smell to it that quickly dissipated. Maybe it was a funeral home? I ordered ten hot buffalo wings, well done, for $7.45. Then out came the celery, or wait, no it didn’t. The yellow Styrofoam plates the wings were served on looked like something a homeless shelter might use to divvy out their gruel. There were plenty of napkins. I noticed that their telephone number’s last four digits spell ribs so I will definitely have to give them a look next time. However, Whistlers Inn’s wing was by far the juiciest and the skin was very crispy and delightful. Where the wing itself fell short was the sauce. I was not in love with the taste of the sauce. The chicken wing by itself was incredible, but when paired with the sauce, I think the wing actually went down a few notches. If I don’t remember them for their wings, I will certainly remember them as the place I was when Eli Manning got his head cracked open by a Jet.

The other two bars probably just stood out due to the fact that 45th Street Pub’s sauce alone titillated my palette. After arriving at my friends house, my normal conversation commenced, "Who has the best wings around here?" He thought about it for a minute and said, "Francesca's." I figured it was an Italian restuarant but didn't expect it to be a pizza place in a small strip mall. My hopes werent high since almost every pizza joint in Jersey has the exact same wings. All from a restuarant depot that has a ton of frozen wings packed in the freezer. Anytime i've ordered wings from a pizza place, they come with 1 sauce flavor, and a blob of blue cheese dressing. NOT Francesca's!! Several different kinds of sauce, generously applied to each and every wing. I had "BBQ mild" sauce on my order. We had them delivered since we were all having a good time drinking at the house. Delivery time was about 45 minutes, which isnt bad at all for it being a Saturday night. The delivery guy came, i met him at the door and when we exchanged money for wings, they were still piping hot. Those 20 wings lasted about 10 minuted in my possession, OUTSTANDING! By far the best wings i have ever had from a pizza place. They were actually so good that the first thing i thought about were those BBQ mild wings. My son and I took a ride out there the next day and ordered 50 more. He also approved. We ordered 50 this time so we could have left overs for the next day too. Definetly a good value also, 50 wings, $28. Not bad, I met with Gus, one of the owners, and he told me about the Garlic Parmasean sauce he makes. He hooked me up with 5 wings with that sauce. Very satisfying, definetly a different kind of sauce. Gus also told me that all of his sauces are made from scratch, and thats rare these days. I rate Francesca's a 9. I will definetly be returning.

Anyone in Ocean county, Burlington county, maybe even Mercer county that owns a motorcycle knows of this bar. I also believe that every fireman in the tri counties knows of this bar because their wings are so hot, they have their own fire truck. Maybe every biker, and fireman has been to this bar. It is definitely my favorite wing spot. Full sized wings, sweet, tangy, garlic, butter sauce, and the coldest beer just makes this bar, a treasure in the woods. My wife and I jumped on the Harley Davidson and just cruised around in the pine barons for about 2 hours and made it to, as what locals call it, "The Pic." When we walked in, we were greeted pleasantly by the female bartender that looked like she could easily beat up me, and the 2 other fellas that walked in with me, and she was only about 110 pounds. Very friendly though. She served up some Yeungling in a frosted glass, hooked us up with the controller thing to play "quizzo" while we waited for our delicious wings. The four of us ordered 50 wings. They were out surprisingly fast, served in a huge dog bowl that looked like it could have been utilized by a Great Dane. Wings overflowing, she sat the bowl right in front of me. The aroma entered my nose like a veteran coming home from the war. Borderline orgasmic!!! After the four of us went to town on the 50 wings, we had about 20 leftover. My wife wasn't too happy about this, since we were travelling on a Harley, but I had to get them to go. By far, the BEST WINGS EVER! Excellent service, excellent food, excellent "out in the pines" feeling. Very affordable also.

While vacationing on Long Beach Island, NJ, I heard very many good things about the wings at the Chicken or the Egg. After a long night of story telling and and laughing and drinking a few too many beers, nothing sounded better than some chicken wings. We got there around 9:30 am and there was no line, about 3 tables in the whole restaurant were filled and every waiter/waitress looked like they also had a rough night. The decor resembled something out of a beach boys music video with a touch of Katy Perry, both I thoroughly enjoy.

I ordered mild wings. The waiter, "Rob," said they were the most popular. I enjoyed an omelette as well since it was breakfast time and it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time. After my traditional breakfast was complete, the mild, wet, wings appeared in front of me. They smelled so good, it voided the breakfast I had just consumed. After the first bite into the full sized chicken wing, I had come to the conclusion that, no doubt, the hype was right on. Wonderful wings. I only ordered six wings and I'm glad I did. They were huge. May have even been the biggest I have ever seen. The price was a little high, but isn't everything on LBI? I left absolutely satisfied. Also, something that a lot of people may not know about this spot it's open 24 hours a day, and it's BYOB, and if you're military, they support the troops and have military discounts. I rate the wings a 9 out of 10.

THE WING SHACK - ORLANDO FL.

The wing shack on 4650 E. Michigan St. in Orlando, Florida is the place to be on Sundays during football season. The owner, Shawn Casey is from Philly and each week he hosts the largest Eagles celebration in the city. Being that Florida has three NFL teams you would think the Eagles would not be such an attraction. However as you notice the crowds of people in eagles white and green pouring in you begin to realize that this is more than your typical wingshack/sports bar.

As my wife Amy and I sat down at our table two waitresses introduced themselves to us and began helping us with our orders. When you consider the fact that this place gets really crowded during game time this is good. One of the things I like about this bar is that I do not have to wait 45 minutes for another beer if I want one. So right away I felt taken care of.

As the Fox pregame show ended and the eagles players came out onto the field Shawn turned down the volume and put on the rocky theme. The place was filled with beers and cheers and after Shawn played a recording of God bless America we waited for kickoff.

Just after the Eagles scored we got our food and as I took in each delicious tasting bite I looked up at the decor around me. There are framed throwback jerseys of Reggie White, Jerome Brown, and Bill Bergey next to a large painting of Donovan McNabb. When the eagles scores the bar sings Fly eagles fly and one of the waitresses walks around waving a large eagles flag.

I got the 24 wings platter, medium. Even though I go for taste more than spiciness I am definitely going to move up to hot for next time. However, the wings were not lacking in taste and I didn't miss a beat. When I put away that batch the waittress was nice enough to bring some samples of their trophy wings. The trophy wings are basically just a combination of all of their flavors: Mild, Medium, Hot, Suicide, Garlic, BBQ, Honey Mustard, Teriyaki, Cajun, Lemon Pepper. I give the wingshack 4 out of five stars. I don't say that lightly either because I am hard to please when it comes to wings.

Everything about this place is fun. When you are so far from where you grew up your entire life the one thing you miss the most after you leave is the sports. But it's good to know that I have people to throw down frosty mugs with and high five while watching my eagles and smacking down some tasty morsels.

Buffalo Wild Wings (BWLD) has avoided the malaise that has infected much of the restaurant industry.

The Minneapolis-based restaurant chain proved itself this week with an earnings report that beat analysts' estimates and sent the stock higher the next day.

After the close Monday, it reported earnings of 39 cents a share, a 26% increase from the year-ago quarter. That beat estimates by 5 cents and was the third-straight quarter the company beat forecasts. Revenue was up 32%.

That was pretty much in line with the top- and bottom-line growth rates from the last several quarters.

Same-store sales rose 2.8% at company-owned stores and 3.7% at franchised stores.

The company said it's on track to meet its 2009 annual goals for unit growth of 15%, revenue growth of 25% and earnings growth of 20% to 25%.

Buffalo has carved out a niche for itself as a sports bar. Its young, male clientele hasn't given up on watching sports on big-screen TVs, drinking beer and eating bar snacks — like buffalo wings. It also serves families early-evening dinners, often after a baseball or soccer game.

Buffalo Wild Wings has 601 restaurants in 41 states. The company hopes to exceed 1,000 restaurants by 2013, partly through international expansion.

Analysts tracked by Thomson Reuters forecast 2009 earnings of $1.62 a share, a 24% increase over the prior year. For 2010, they see $2.05, a 22% increase.

The company has an IBD EPS Stability Rating of 10.

The stock appears to be setting up in a nice base.

Well this place doesn't look like much from the outside and is actually is a small bar, but their is always people there. Now Jays doesn't have the best wings in the world, but what they do have is a bar that serves wings up til 230 am every day , even on Sunday nights. In New Jersey for us night owls, that is hard to come by. Most places close their kitchen by 11pm, 12 if you know the cook. The wings at Jays Elbow Room are average, and the sauce is ok, but I'll take decent meaty average wings at 230 am anyday. It beats the frozen bag of wings in my freezer, plus their isn't a bunch of females in my kitchen at 2am (usually). Jays has a good atmosphere. They have an outside deck, pool table, and take out beer til 3 am. The kitchen however closes at 230 am. Decent prices, and I recommend it to anyone in New Jersey looking for wings after 1 am.

Recipe: H-O-T Hot Boneless Buffalo Wings

Serves: 2 (5 wings each) Preparation time: 10 minutes / Total time: 30 minutes

1/4 cup Fiber One Original bran cereal

1 ounce (about 14 crisps) Pringles Light Fat-Free Barbecue potato crisps or another brand of fat-free barbecue-flavored potato chips

Dash of onion powder

Dash of garlic powder

Dash of cayenne pepper

Dash of black pepper

Dash of salt

8 ounces boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 10 nuggets

3 tablespoons Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper sauce

Nonstick cooking spray

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a blender or food processor, grind Fiber One to a bread crumb-like consistency. Crush the potato crisps in a bowl. In a small dish, mix crushed crisps with cereal crumbs. Add the onion powder and garlic powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper and salt and mix well.

Place the chicken pieces in a separate dish. Cover with the hot sauce and toss to coat.

Coat a nonstick baking sheet with cooking spray. Give each chicken piece a shake so it's not dripping with sauce, then coat evenly with crumb mixture. Place crumb-covered nuggets on the baking sheet.

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.

Flip nuggets over and bake for 10 more minutes, or until outsides are crispy and chicken is cooked throughout.

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Huntsville's chicken wings heavyweights squared-off on Friday in the Alpha Tau Omega's "Battle of the Buffalo."

More than 500 people joined the local fraternity at the University of Alabama in Huntsville to decide which local restaurant offers the best Buffalo wings. The "Battle of the Buffalo" was a fundraiser benefiting the Russell Hill Cancer Foundation.

The all-you-could-eat wing extravaganza pitted places like Hooters, Beauregard's and Domino's against each other in a winner-take-all bout.

Judges, including Maj. Gen. Jim Myles, University of Alabama in Huntsville's President David Williams, Mayor Tommy Battle and Times reporter Jon Busdeker, had the tough job of tasting wings from each restaurant.

Doyles Pour House- Tuckerton NJ

We haven’t done a review in awhile but we’ll start getting into it again and do reviews pretty frequently. Last night a handful of us went to a local bar called Doyles Pour House in Tuckerton, NJ on Main Street near route 9. We have heard nothing but good things about the wings and decided that we had to try them and write a review on them. We got there around 11pm; the place was packed but got a seat and ordered our wings right away because the kitchen was closing at 12. My brother, our friend and I took a look at the menu and looked at all the different types of wings they had. They had the usual buffalo and extreme hot but also had some different flavors like Captain Morgan, spicy garlic and teriyaki. I got the same thing I always get, the mild buffalo which were good, not too hot but had just enough kick to them. My Brother said the spicy garlic were great and must have been because I looked over at him a couple minutes after we got the wings and he was already on his last wing. His only complaint was, there was a little too much sauce, I didn’t notice this for his wings but did for the teriyaki wings my friend got. There was a good amount of sauce but he said he didn’t mind it and said the wings were excellent. Overall it was a good time, chill atmosphere and some good wings. I would recommend this place for anyone looking to have a relaxing time with some friends, to eat some quality wings.

Celebrity Snapshots Winter Weather 2009 Show Us Your Shadow On the eve of the annual Wing Bowl, there is a nationwide chicken shortage that is driving up the price of chicken wings.

Like the feeling you get after an incomplete pass, a Super Bowl party without wings can leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Wing prices always go up before the Bowl, but this year, the cost of wings has taken flight thanks to a wing shortage across the country.

"Before Christmas, they were $1.29 a pound and now they are up to $1.79, so they have gone up about 50 cents," Cavanaugh's Restaurant and Sports Bar owner Brian Pawliczek said.

At Cavanaugh's, wings are their "bread and butter". On a good night, they can sell 1,600 of them.

This football season, there were a lot of good nights and a huge demand for wings.

"With the New York Giants, the Eagles, Baltimore, there's been a strain on the East Coast," Pawliczek said.

High demand is one thing, but when you mix in the weak economy, the recipe is pretty sour.

Pilgrim's Pride, which supplied one quarter of the country's 24 billion wings last year, filed for bankruptcy protection in December.

The National Chicken Council Board says chicken production is down by 5 percent this year.

But the demand remains the same, and so at Cavanaugh's, the 35 cent wing special is still on the menu. Pawliczek says they'll eat the loss, but keep the wings spicy for a reason.

"With the wings, people have to wash them down with something," Pawliczek said.

Organizers of the Wing Bowl say they have all the wings they need for the event.

PALMYRA - On Friday, Mike Berger will have a wing and a prayer. Actually, he'll have a whole lot of wings and about 20,000 people to watch him eat them.

Before most people get out of bed Friday morning, Berger, 43, of Palmyra, will be attempting to cram as many chicken wings down his throat as his body can handle, while thousands of rowdy onlookers at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia guzzle beer and scream at the top of their lungs during Wing Bowl XVII.

Wing Bowl has become one of the city's more unusual traditions. Hosted by Philadelphia radio station WIP (610 AM), the event began in 1993 in a hotel with two contestants and about 150 people in the crowd.

On Friday at 6 a.m., about 20,000 fans are expected at the South Philadelphia facility to cheer on the 27 contestants, who had to perform an eating stunt to gain entry into the prestigious event.

"I'm ready," Berger said. "It's going to be tough. But I'm right there. I'm hoping to surprise some people. And if I throw up doing it, it's all the better."

Berger, a flooring contractor who goes by the name "The Eating Machine," already has proven he has an iron stomach. Berger ate 32 ounces of mayonnaise in 1 minute, 50 seconds on Angelo Cataldi's show to qualify.

"It was a pretty gross thing," Berger said. "I had failed at a sandwich-eating contest so I had to come up with something creative for the show. I like mayo. I'm not going to lie, but it was rough. I think my body went into shock."

Berger will be Burlington County's lone representative and has a chance of winning the grand prize - a 2009 Mini Clubman.

Ten of Berger's friends will be in the running for the best entourage, which will take home a grand prize of a trip to either Cancun or Punta Cana.

"That's where we think we can win," Berger said. "It's little bit of a surprise but I think we have a good chance of winning best entourage."

According to odds makers, Berger also has a shot to win Wing Bowl. Though he is just 5-foot-8 and weighs 185 pounds, he remains one of the favorites by WIP to win the competition.

Contestants range from Berger's size to as tall as Brian Corrigan of Rockledge, Pa., (6-4, 310 pounds) and as large as Doug Canavins of the Fishtown section of Philadelphia [6-2, 504 pounds].

"Realistically, I'm hoping to finish in the top eight," Berger said. "Each guy in my group, all Palmyra guys by the way, bought about 12 tickets each and I bought another 40 so we should have a pretty good fan base there to cheer us on."

The event is sold out and proceeds from the tickets will be donated to the Philadelphia Police Department through the Philadelphia Police Foundation.

"I've been to Wing Bowl before just to watch and I can tell you it's crazy," Berger said. "Winning would be a great bonus but just being in there is going to be awesome."

Wing Bowl 17 is going back to the neighborhoods!
This is an ALL AMATUER event, no professional eaters allowed!
There are two ways to become a contestant at Wing Bowl 17

1. Complete an approved eating stunt in front of the Morning Show.

This can be done by calling Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team at 215-592-0610 or 856-963-0610, Monday thru Friday from 5:30 am - 10:00 am to propose an eating stunt (ex. 5 cheeseburgers in 3 mins,3lbs of sloppy joe in 2 mins).

If your stunt is accepted, you will be given a day and time to attempt your stunt at the WIP Studios. If you complete it in the alloted time period, you will be in Wing Bowl 17.

2. Win one of the 8 area Wing Offs

You will attempt to eat as many wings as you possibly can in a 10 minute time period, the person who eats the most wings during this competition will earn a spot in Wing Bowl 17.

Tops to sell Anchor Bar wings

There are now an additional 71 ways across the region to pick up an order of Anchor Bar chicken wings.

Tops Friendly Markets said Monday it has entered into a deal to sell the popular food item — created by the well-known Buffalo restaurant — at its grocery outlets in Western and Central New York and northwest Pennsylvania.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tops, based in Williamsville, becomes the first food retailer licensed to sell Anchor Bar Buffalo Wings in its 71-store chain.

Company officials said that five varieties of Anchor Bar chicken wings are available, fully cooked, in the prepared food section of all Tops locations everyday.

The Anchor Bar restaurant on Main Street in Buffalo is credited with creating the original “Buffalo Wing” in 1964.

It is also the second outside partnership signed by Tops with another popular area restaurant chain. By the end of 2008 Tops expects to have a Tim Hortons presence in all of its stores, as well as Tops Xpress locations.

On Friday November 21st , My Brother and I went to Dadz Bar and Grill on Route 38 in Lumberton, New Jersey. We went to try their wings after hearING nothing but good things about them. We got there around 9, wasn’t too busy and got a seat in the back area where a band would be playing around 10. We looked at the menu to see what they offered, they offered 2 different types of wings, Wings (with flour on them ) and Naked wings (without flour on them) and 13 sauces (Asian - BBQ - Bourbon - Caribbean - Garlic - Jerk -Mild-Medium - Hot - Super Hot - Hotter Than Hell - Cajun - Old Bay). My Brother got 6 garlic, 6 medium and 6 Old Bay, I stuck to my usual 18 mild. We got the wings and dug right into them, we both agreed they were very meaty and the sauce on the mild and medium wings was just an average sauce with nothing special about it, which is never a bad thing. My brother said the garlic wings were delicious and the Old Bay wings were different but good. This was the first place that I saw to offer Old Bay wings, I heard of fries with Old Bay seasoning on them but never wings. Another cool thing about Dadz is that it is all you can eat wings which includes soup, salad and garlic bread on Tuesdays 11am-11pm. Overall the atmosphere, the wings and the prices were not bad and I would definitely recommend trying this place out when you get a chance. It was also rated Burlington County Times best wings 2008.

Sierra's Grandma's Secret Buffalo Wing Sauce

Ingredients
2 cups vegetable oil
10 whole, fresh chicken wings, cut in pieces (20 wing pieces)
1 stick butter
4 tablespoons brown sugar
5 tablespoons tomato sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon oregano, fresh or dried
Dash beer
1 dash hot sauce (recommended: Frank's Hot Sauce)
Directions
Chicken Wing preparation: Heat 2 cups vegetable oil to 350 degrees F in a large skillet on stovetop. Drop wing pieces into hot oil and fry for 10 to 15 minutes or until crisp. Transfer wings to paper towels to remove excess oil.

Buffalo Wing Sauce: Melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat in a small saucepan on stovetop. Add tomato sauce and hot sauce into mixture. Finally, add garlic, onion powder, white pepper, chili powder, salt, and oregano. Add a dash of beer, to taste. Stir over low heat until mixture is well blended.

Toss sauce liberally over chicken wings. Serve buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing, carrots and/or celery sticks.

FOR THE WINGS:
20 chicken wing pieces
6 to 12 cups vegetable shortening
1/4 cup to 1/3 cup choice of sauce (recipes follow)
Celery sticks (for serving)

Heat shortening in your fryer to 350 degrees F.

Drop wings into shortening and fry for 10 to 12 minutes, or until wings are turning light brown. Remove wings to a rack or paper towels to drain for 1 minute.

Put wings into plastic container with a lid. Add 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup of your own sauce of to container, put lid on and give a good shake.

Pour wings onto plate and add celery on the side.

Serves 2 to 4 as an appetizer

SPICY GARLIC WING SAUCE:
1 cup Frank's cayenne pepper
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons water
2 teaspoons cornstarch

MEDIUM WING SAUCE:
1 cup Frank's cayenne pepper sauce
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons water
2 teaspoons cornstarch

HOT WING SAUCE:
1 cup Frank's cayenne pepper sauce
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons water
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons cornstarch

Combine all ingredients except egg yolk, water, and cornstarch for sauce of your choice in a small saucepan. Heat sauce over medium heat until boiling, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat and allow it to cool, uncovered, for 10 minutes.

While sauce cools, vigorously whisk egg yolk with 2 teaspoons water in a medium bowl for about 2 minutes or color is pale yellow. Whisk in cornstarch until dissolved. Drizzle sauce mixture into egg yolk mixture in a steady stream while rapidly whisking. This will create a thick, creamy emulsion that will prevent oil from separating. Cover sauce and chill until needed.

Makes 1 1/2 cups

CARIBBEAN JERK SAUCE
Makes 2 cups

3 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons minced green onion (white and light green parts only)
1 cup water
3/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 tablespoons Frank's cayenne pepper sauce
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon rubbed sage

Melt margarine over a medium-low heat. Add minced green onions and cook 5 minutes. You just want to sweat the onions to soften them up. You're not looking to brown them.

Remove pan from heat, and whisk in remaining ingredients. Put pan back on the stove and bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes or until sauce darkens and thickens. Cover sauce, then cool and chill until needed.

The Wing Bowl is an annual chicken wing eatting contest that was founded in 1993 by two Philadelphia radio hosts, Al Morganti and Angelo Cataldi. Since its start in 1993, the Wing Bowl that began as a radio promotion has grown into an extremely competitive and exciting tradition in Philadelphia. The Wing Bowl is usually held on the Friday preceding the Super Bowl and is broadcasted live from the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia by WIP (AM radio).
The event all started when WIP's host Al Morganti came up with the idea when it seemed unlikely that the Philadelphia Eagles were going to make a Super Bowl appearance anytime soon. The first Wing Bowl took place in the lobby of the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel in Center City Philadelphia. Ever since then, the media has embraced the bowl which has caused it to grow. The Wing Bowl became so popular that they had to move it to larger arenas such as the Wachovia Center and more Wing Bowl tickets were made available to help feed the growing demand. Now every major Philadelphia television station covers this exciting yet unique event.
The popularity of the Wing Bowl is undeniable. The event now draws crowds amassing over 20,000 people and is expected to be even bigger this year.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS - ORLANDO FLORIDA

I saw the commercials on TV , but I was a little skeptical at first to try one of these places. I'm glad I did though! We visited the Buffalo Wild Wings in Orlando Florida and it was nice. The wings were solid with 14 different flavors to pick from on the menu. They weren't the meatiest wings I ever had, but the sauces made up for them. They went from Sweet BBQ to Blazin' hot. After speaking with the manager he claimed a guy had recently eaten 20 of these Blazin hots and that was astonishing. So if you can surpass that record , please send us video footage!! My favorite sauce that I sampled was Spicy Garlic. A little kick with some good flavor. Food was served fast , and the atmosphere was awesome. I counted about 33 TV's ( just about every college football game was on ) and 3 large screen projection screens. They also have free wifi and a full service sit down bar. Buffalo Wild Wings also has a good weekly deal consisting of all you can eat wings and french fries for 9.99 mon-fri 10 am -2 pm. Overall had a good experience with a courteous staff and good food.

Q. Please do us all a favor and make this a Delaware Valley (PA, NJ, DE) only event in 2009. The professional eater idea and their acceptance into Wing Bowl are old and really do not satisfy the WIP listeners. It's a Philly event and Philly deserves a local guy or gal as its winner. Please consider this suggestion or this great local event will really begin to lose all its excitement and Philly uniqueness.

A. We are greatly concerned about the emergence of “outsiders” dominating Wing Bowl, and we are hard at work trying to come up with a way to bring it back to its roots. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as it might seem. Because it is broadcast on WIP, the contest is governed by the FCC, and we must conform to some stringent rules in running it. Our thought right now – 11 months away from the next Wing Bowl – is to have an event that is strictly for amateurs in 2009. Anyone who is or has been associated with a professional-eating organization would be ineligible. I hope – if we can get this plan approved – that it will address many of the concerns about the competition in Wing Bowl 17.

HOOTERS STYLE BUFFALO WING RECIPE

Prep. Time: 1:45
Serves: 4

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp. black pepper
20 chicken wing segments
1/2 cup butter OR margarine
1/2 cup hot sauce (see Notes, below)

-In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, and peppers.
-Coat chicken entirely in the flour mixture; refrigerate coated wings for 1 hour; coat chicken again with remaining flour mixture.
-In a 2-quart saucepan, heat butter and hot sauce just until butter melts; turn heat to low and keep warm on stove top.
-Deep-fry chicken, 8 - 10 pieces at a time, in 375 degree oil (vegetable oil, canola oil, or peanut oil) for 13 minutes, turning once or twice.
-Drain chicken on a wire cooling rack for 30 seconds, then immediately toss fried chicken in buffalo sauce mixture and remove with a slotted spoon.
-Repeat with remaining chicken.

Adjusting the spiciness of the sauce: As is, the recipe produces a medium sauce. To change the amount of spiciness, simply adjust the butter-to-hot sauce-ratio:
Mild: Use 3/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup hot sauce.
Hot: Use 1/4 cup butter and 3/4 cup hot sauce.

CLUB MAGGIES - LAKEWOOD NJ 10 CENT WINGS!!!

So my buddy sees my site and tells me I got to check out this place with him, rumor is that they have 10 cent wings whenever there is a football game on TV. Place is called Maggies in Lakewood NJ. I decide to meet up with him tonight, besides the rain , I got there pretty smoothly. Club Maggies is located on Lakewood country club. Minutes from 195 exit 22. It is a nice little sports bar, that had a good atmosphere to it. ( Pool tables, flat screens , Dj etc.) Also had a good crowd for a thursday night and no cover. Now I came here with the mindset that for ten cent wings, I was going to get bottom of the barrel wings. I underestimated. The wings were actually better than I expected. We ordered 50 between the two of us, and went to town. We tried all 4 flavors, Mild, Hot, Teriyaki, and Buffalo sauce. The wings aren't that meaty so you can chow down about 20 before you start to feel filled. The sauce is ok, but nothing special. One recommendation I would make is that the Hot wings actually be Hot. They were more like between a medium and a mild, barely hot at all. Overall the surrounding was a good time, and for 10 cent wings , well you can't really beat getting a full stomach on 2 dollars.

Here is the original recipe created by Ms. Teresa Bellissimo, owner of the Anchor Bar and Restaurant, in Buffalo, NY. It is taken from Totally Hot! The Ultimate Hot Pepper Cookbook.

Ingredients:4 pounds Chicken wings

Freshly ground black pepperSalt (if desired)

4 cups Vegetable Oil

4 tablespoons butter or margarine

5 tablespoons Louisiana-brand hot sauce or Tabasco sauce

1 tablespoon white wine vinegar

Directions:
1. Chop off the tip of each chicken wing, and discard it. Chop the wing in half (cutting at the joint) to make 2 pieces. Grind on fresh black pepper and sprinkle with salt if desired. 2. Heat the oil over high heat in a deep skillet, Dutch oven, or deep-fat fryer until it starts to pop and sizzle (around 400 degrees F). Add half the chicken wings and cook until they're golden and crisp, stirring or shaking occasionally. When done, remove them to drain on paper towels and cook the remaining wings. 3. Melt the butter or margarine over medium heat in a heavy saucepan, add the hot sauce and the 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Stir well and remove from the flame immediately. 4. Place the chicken on a warm serving platter, pour the sauce on top, and serve

Myself and my associate made the trip here and taste-tested a “Super Hot” and “Buffalo Garlic” 10-piece package. While there, the restaurant had a steady flow of foot traffic and it took only about 15 minutes for our order to arrive. As for the workers at the establishment, there were not many negative things to report – other than the fact they weren’t wearing any gloves while preparing our food!!! In regards to the wings themselves, all I can say is the sauce is tasty but are a little skimpy on the meat side, which after 10 “Super Hot”, left me yearning for some more.
After praying I wouldn’t become infected with Hepatitis C and giving Buddah a big wet kiss on his belly, I would have to say my overall evaluation for Wings to Go is a “C” on the American Wing King Scale, for great variety and quick service. However, the sanitation aspect and wing meat, or lack there of, makes me a little leary of the joint.

Well I promised my friends some good wings this afternoon and they got some. We went to the Pic-A-Lilli Pub in Atlantic City NJ. The wings here are simply amazing. The pub is a small dive bar located 100 yards off the boardwalk. Another place that you might miss if your not looking for it. The service was a little slow and the clientele a little questionable (It is AC afterall), but the wings are worth it. The sauces range from Mild, Spicy, Hot and Smokers. I once saw someone eat 6 smokers and they looked like they were going to pass out. Spicy and Mild have the best flavor I have ever tasted. The wings aren't the meatiest around but you get the whole wing and thigh connected, so it makes up for it. On Wednesday nights, they have 13 wings for 4.00 specials! Cant beat that price. The pub is 24 hours, but the kitchen closes around 10-11 oclockish, and open near lunch time. Great place to stop if your down there gambling and looking for some good wings.

Buffalo King Wings & Things - Mt.Laurel, NJ

This might be the best place for Wings in Burlington County NJ. The wings are meaty , the sauces are great. Buffalo King , specializes in wings , but also offers Tails, Ears, ( must try if you never had) Soups , wraps and sandwiches. The wing sauces come in four flavors, Mild, Spicy , Hot & Smokers. From experience, I believe that Spicy is the best tasting flavor. Buffalo King is located in the 7 eleven shopping center, so you might pass it if your not looking hard enough. It's located minutes from 295 , or Rt 38. One complaint I have is that there is no places to eat in the restaurant , it's Take out or Delivery only. They should add a couple tables for visitors out of the area. Overall one of the best wings I've ever tasted.
