Golden Nugget Tavern - Berlin NJ

Over the years people have been constantly recommending a place in Berlin NJ called the Golden Nugget . A few years ago the establishment burned down due to a bad fire, it was finally rebuilt last year. Today I finally had an opportunity to visit . I brought along Ragan and my son Bryson for his first wing review ( he slept through most of the lunch ) . GN is located off Rt 30 and easy to get to. Has a nice size parking lot, and the building is deceiving , because inside it looks about twice as big from the outside. The bar is a "working mans" bar , and has that country feel to it's surroundings . Walls have deer / bear heads, Kenny chesney posters and I even saw an old timer wearing his finest cowboy hat at lunch time. The service was courteous and the menu was surprisingly well optioned for a bar. We ordered the buffalo scallops for an appetizer . I am always a little skirmish about eating seafood at a place that isn't a seafood restaurant primarily , but these scallops fried in wing sauce were the real secret. We ordered 30 wings and I may have held too high hopes. We got the wings and dug in, but they were not as stellar as I had envisioned. They were average in my opinion. The wings had a lack of variety and only came in mild and hot. They also were average size. On plus side the Service was quick though and they gave a big side of blue cheese. The place has a lot of history , and might have the best wings in Berlin , but I rate the wings as average overall. If you like a country atmosphere then this is a good place to stop for lunch . Try the Buffalo Scallops!

Dominic's Tavern - Bellmawr NJ

 I visited Dominic’s Tavern in Bellmawr after my friend, Sean Tighe, raved about their “Fat Daddy” wings. After belonging to the Camden County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums band for about a year, which is headquartered about a mile from Dominic’s Tavern, I cannot believe that I wasn’t informed sooner of this fine establishment. Sean told me that the wings were awesome there. I’ve heard that before and I’ve been disappointed. NOT THIS TIME! Outstanding wings. Sean was right on about their Fat Daddy wings. The sauce had a little kick to it, and was unlike any other sauce I’ve ever had. It was a very odd mixture of hot sauce, cheddar cheese and ranch dressing! WHAT!? Insane combo but was absolutely amazing!
​Whenever I go to a new place with someone, I always take their word on what wings to get, since that’s what we do. Sean also ordered an order of honey bbq, and garlic hot. The honey bbq wings were really sweet and had a delightful after taste. My 3 year old son, Cameron “The Wing Prince” Brennan, tore them up. Not spicy at all, with a sweet, smokey barbeque taste. I’m not a huge fan of really super spicy wings, and the garlic hot sauce was HOT. I could only eat one of them. If you decide to order any type of wings from Dominic’s, and it says hot, trust me, its freaking hot! Sean tore them up though, gotta give him props for that!
​Dominic’s Tavern wings come in orders of 10. Each order, with blue cheese and celery, is only $5.95. I must add, they were some of the biggest, meatiest wings in the area. That means a lot to the Wing Kings. I was stuffed after eating about 8 wings. Another good thing about Dominic’s is the little Phillies helmets they give to kids. Cameron ordered little soft pretzel bites with cheddar cheese dip, and they came out in a little Phillies helmet! We ordered 30 wings, pretzel bites, a hot dog (Cameron’s choice) 2 sodas, an apple juice (Cameron again) and Sean and I had 6 beers, and the bill was under $50. It was definitely worth every penny. I will be returning to Dominic’s Tavern again, and if you do too, make sure you tell them that The American Wing Kings sent you!

Dead Dog Saloon - Sea Isle City, NJ

Were on vacation for a week and I see a sign for half price wings on Tuesday, so obviously I wouldn't pass on this place. After a few bad wings this past week, I needed to find some good wings quick. Luckily this place had some good wings. We walked into a dimly lit lounge area and were promptly greeted by the bartender. The restaurant is a two story bar. The saloon offers half price wings on Tuesdays from 5-9pm. I was surprised the bar didn't have more customers. We grabbed a table and I ordered my usual sugar free Red Bull. My friends took advantage of the special on Blue Moon Pitchers. The wings came in 7 varities ; Dead Dog House Sauce, Hot, BBQ, Terriyaki, Spicy Sweet , Garlic and Plain. I asked the waiter what he recommended and he quickly told us the House Sauce was the best. I ordered 10 of them , and 10 spicy sweet. My friends all ordered a variety of the rest of the sauces. While waiting for our order I checked out the bar. The bar has a nice 82 inch tv which is great for watching sports. I also found out the meaning behind the name of the bar. Apparently when the bar was under construction, the workers were frequently visited by a dog on a daily basis. The dog would even carry hammers to the workers. On one unfortunate day, the dog was struck by a car and killed. They asked the owner of the bar what they should do with the dog, the owner asked them to bury the dog on site and the building was built on top, and so the " Dead Dog Saloon" was created.
The wings came out and we all dove into our baskets. The waiter was right, the Dead Dog House Sauce was the best. We had mixed opinions on the Spicy Sweet wings. They were basically a form of Asian wings that I have had before. The hot sauce was more like a mild sauce. Garlic wings were just average. Overall the wings were a decent size and the service was good. If your in the area check out the house sauce. It taste like a mix of BBQ and a sweet Hot sauce. I'm probably going back tomorrow for another 10!
